We’ve already listed out a bunch of things to consider when submitting a potential lemonade story. But recently it came to our attention that we should share some of our key considerations in deciding which stories to pursue.
It’s a decision that every writer or publisher makes. Answering this question fully will make life easier for our storytellers, enhance their experience, and perhaps prevent a bit of frustration.
So let’s jump right in! Here are the top three considerations we use to provide counsel and wisdom for those submitting God Makes Lemonade stories:
1. Does It Fit Lemonade? This is the most subjective factor, but it’s something we always think about. Sometimes stories just don’t have the right blend of lemon, surprise, and lemonade.
But don’t just decide your story isn’t right; read the Lemonade FAQs carefully, and then send yours in. Some of our storytellers have been pleasantly surprised by our excitement over their piece.
2. Is It True? We all love good fiction, but that’s not what our God Makes Lemonade community is about. We’re about real-life stories. Our readers know we’re sharing stories about things that really happened to real people living real life.
3. Does It Encourage Us? When some of these compelling stories cause you to laugh or cry, know that we are laughing or crying as we read them, too. The best way to know our readers will be touched by these stories is whether they move us.
