We need to replace the workplace water-cooler with something better.
The water-cooler is that place where workplace gossipers, troublemakers, rumormongers, time wasters, and generally negative people gather. Like bugs to a porch light, people with bad news find their way to the water-cooler.
“Did you hear about Sally? Her husband left her. I saw that coming. I mean, really, what did she expect?”
“I just talked to someone at corporate. Looks like they’re getting ready for severe cutbacks.”
“I can’t believe we haven’t been hit again by terrorists. It’s coming. You wait and see. My brother-in-law works for TSA and he said….”
Charles Schwab must have been thinking about the water-cooler when he said, “I have yet to find the man who did not do better work under a spirit of approval than criticism.” If we want our workdays to be better and brighter, the water-cooler needs to go.
Instead, bring in the lemonade cooler!
Put it right in the middle of your office, shop, or school with a big sign that says Lemonade Happens!
Now that’s something that will increase the approval factor in the workplace. It’s almost impossible to be negative when we take the time to drink lemonade and think about how something so sweet and refreshing came from such sour fruit.
